Ian’s background as a dad, granddad, entrepreneur and employer informs his life experiences which when added to his professional training and qualification in Psychotherapy and Counselling affords him the opportunity to understand, empathise and support those seeking to find an easier way to live their lives.

Professional qualifications and accreditation

BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy with PCI College, Dublin, and Middlesex University London. Professional Certificate in Couples Counselling from PCI College, Dublin.  He is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and abides by their ethical standards. He attends regular supervision as his commitment to ensuring ongoing professional care. In addition, Ian is a qualified coach (LECI) and a past mediator with Dublin Community Mediation.

Further specific certified training includes Anger Management, Anxiety, CBT, Dreams, Family Psychology, Intergenerational Patterns and Childhood Wounds.

How Ian likes to work with clients (Methods)

Believing that the relationship between the therapist and the client is an essential element for therapeutic progress, Ian practices in a humanistic, non-judgmental and compassionate way, integrating other modalities as appropriate, such as CBT.

Whether working on a one-to-one basis or in groups, Ian’s more senior experience has facilitated an easy relationship with clients of all ages.

Ian is informed by his professional training and his life experiences, along with the work of Carl Jung, Carl Rogers, John O’Donohue, John Bradshaw and others.

Outcomes

He believes the outcome for a client should be to better understand themselves and be able to cope more easily with life’s problems. While examining presenting issues and realising that as humans we are complex beings, therapy offers each client the opportunity to see themselves as a whole person in a new and more confident manner.

Issues

Typical of the issues he has dealt with include anxiety, panic attacks, depression, loss of motivation, relationship challenges, family issues, suicidation, anger management, low self-esteem, and bereavement. From a workplace perspective, the most common issues include stress, burnout, relationships and bullying.

Other relevant interests

Ian has designed and facilitated a Personal Development group workshop which he delivers publicly and corporately. He has worked for a number of years within Irish Prisons presenting and facilitating public speaking rehabilitation groups.

Fees and location

After the initial consultation, Ian’s fees for individuals are €80 per 50 min session; €110 per 60 min session for couples. Clients can be seen face to face or by video from their homes.
